The Refuge History & Mission
In 2008 Grace Church of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, was blessed with the donation of a beautiful, 285-acre property in Stockholm, Wisconsin to be used for transformational ministry. Upon receiving this property the church immediately began the process of using the land and facilities to bless the ministries and members of Grace. A few key renovations were made to the property enabling a number of small camps and personal retreats to take place that brought encouragement and refreshment. Over the next several years, people within the church body and leadership sought to provide a broader vision and mission to this strategic church asset.
In the spring of 2015, Grace Church leadership convened to clarify the vision and mission for the Stockholm property, known by many as the “Grace Church Retreat Center”. Coming out of this time of prayer, reflection and vision casting the leadership rallied around the concept of strategically using the property to help fulfill our priority of “Outrageous efforts to reach and disciple those 0-18”. This strategy included opening the property up to Grace Church partner ministries with a passion for the Next Generation and ultimately led to the formation of a new name “The Refuge” and mission statement:
“The Refuge is a place for youth to discover community, experience adventure, and encounter Christ.”
We look forward to seeing how the Lord will continue to use this amazing facility to be a place where broken hearts are mended, the next generation equipped and leaders are refreshed.
The Refuge is located in Stockholm, Wisconsin, a few miles from Lake Pepin. The property ranges from long winding forested paths to farmland. Located an hour and a half from Minneapolis, The Refuge offers a secluded getaway, while still close to home for many.
